CompSearch is an initiative born from my fascination with data visualization and analytics. Its primary objective is to revolutionize the search, identification, and accessibility of data for HR managers and compensation analysts, ultimately providing them with substantial time and effort savings.
Timeline: 6 days
My Role: UX/UI Designer
Scope: Revamp the search functionality of an outdated compensation data analysis software.
Utilizing an existing search page result as a starting point, I identified the following issues which left analysts and HR personnel frustrated and spending unnecessary time to complete their task:
Create a search feature that improves workflow efficiency by enhancing usability and flexibility, allowing for easy matching of job descriptions and retrieval of relevant data, saving time and effort for users.
I got in touch with a handful of HR managers and compensation analysts in ranging from the healthcare, finance, and hospitality industries, which yielded insight about both this webpage and other softwares.
The sparing use of orange to highlight specific buttons, combined with consistent styling and placement, improves usability and navigation.
Orange coloring is used sparingly to bring attention to specific buttons and refrain from overpowering the UI.
Consistent styling and placement of buttons results in more intuitive usability and navigation.
Drawing inspiration from renowned job board platforms like Handshake and LinkedIn, I incorporated a wide range of filters to enhance the search experience. To add visual interest and break away from a rigid square layout, I introduced rounded dropdown buttons for the filters, creating a distinct separation from regular buttons and introducing a more organic aesthetic.
Improvements to the layout of the search feature result in:
I improved the table layout with better visual hierarchy, including a salary range bar graph. The orange "Views" button highlights this key feature.
Reflecting on the project to revamp an outdated search and filter engine, the journey was marked by a commitment to enhancing user experience. The initial assessment brought attention to significant shortcomings in the usability of the existing system, prompting the need for a redesign.
Throughout the process, the focus was on addressing usability issues, updating outdated features, and improving overall efficiency. The redesign aimed to create a more intuitive and responsive search and filter engine.
This project provided opportunities for efficient decision-making and a streamlined execution. The lack of post-implementation feedback, while a challenge, underscores the importance of seeking user insights to validate design decisions and ensure they align with user expectations.
In summary, the project highlights the commitment to user-centric design and the importance of seeking feedback, irrespective of the team structure. The journey of improvement and adaptation in redesigning the search and filter engine stands as a testament to the dedication to creating a more effective and user-friendly system.
